What is the service life of brake discs in terms of mileage?

Brake pads typically have a lifespan of 30,000 to 40,000 kilometers, whereas brake discs generally last around 70,000 kilometers; this means that, on average, the brake discs should be replaced after two sets of brake pads have been worn out. Rear brake discs, however, have a longer lifespan, capable of reaching 100,000 kilometers.

The maximum wear limit for brake discs is 2 millimeters; once this limit is reached, replacement is necessary. In practice, however, most car owners do not strictly adhere to this standard.

Important considerations regarding brake discs:

One might wonder how washing a car could possibly damage components as robust as brake discs. In reality, during normal operation, the friction involved in slowing the vehicle generates significant heat, causing the discs to reach very high temperatures. If an owner takes the car to a detailing shop for a wash while the discs are still hot, cold water may be sprayed directly onto them before they have had a chance to cool down.
